Although crimes aren’t something new to the streets of South Africa, on Thursday 9th December 2021 at around 1:30 PM the internet saw something unusual, when an elderly Couple pulled into their gated driveway to be greeted with armed robbers that showed up out of nowhere.
What happened was a rare sight where we can see an elderly topless man chasing away the armed robbers with a huge brick from his garage.
Even though the robbery wasn’t a total failure, the man managed to protect himself and his wife through his brickwork.

In the video that went viral on the internet, we can see that as the elderly lady pulled into her driveway, she was greeted with armed thieves, one of whom prevented the gate of the house from getting shut and managed to make their way into the property.
The video was captured by the surveillance camera of the garage, where this whole incident took place. We can see as the wife is parking the car, the husband makes his way out, from the house to the garage. The garage has an automatic gate, and right when it was almost completely closed we see a gray car that is probably a Volkswagen, coming from across the street. The car stopped right in front of the driveway of the victims and two men who were armed sprang out of the vehicle. One of the men stops the gate from getting shut as the other one makes his way into the property.
Both of the men can be seen threatening the couple.
After getting in, the men immediately approached the car of the victims and we can see a little scuffle on the camera.
The robbers threatened the couple with guns and managed to get some material goods from their car.

However, right when the thieves started to make their way back to their getaway vehicle, the old gentleman decided to take matters (or a brick) into his own hands, what we see after that, is what people might call an act of sheer frustration.
The man ran behind the robbers with a brick in his hand, as they were on the way to their escape vehicle. As the robbers got into the car and started moving, we can see the old gentleman throwing the brick towards the car.
The peculiar thing about this incident is how the old man bravely decided to make his move despite his opponents being armed and dangerous. We can see that as his combat armour the man had nothing on except for Bermuda shorts and a pair of flip-flops.
The whole incident could have ended in a much worse state, but the thieves decided to roll out seeing how the tables had turned unexpectedly, and so the robbers got into their car and made their way back safely.
The incident took place in the Malvern area of Durban, South Africa.
